Place of pilgrimage Christkindl
Christkindl, a world-famous place of pilgrimage and natural paradise in Steyr, is known for its Christmas post office, which opens every year during Advent. The story begins in 1695/96 with Ferdinand Sertl, who was healed by a wax figure in a spruce trunk. Today, both the wax figure and the original tree trunk can be found in the high altar of the impressive church.

Experience the mechanical nativity scene by Karl Klauda with 300 animated figures and the large nativity scene by Ferdinand Pöttmesser with 778 hand-carved figures.

Christmas post office Christkindl
From the beginning of Advent until 6 January, Austrian Post sets up the Christmas post office every year. It was first opened in 1950 in the vicarage with just one person employed on an hourly basis and moved to the Christkindlwirt in 1951. At peak times, up to 2 million items were sent with a special Christmas postmark.
