How it all started...
Our story
We are a Steyr-based family business with around 40 employees in the 4th generation, which deals with all areas of tourism, from planning and development to the management of tourism projects. Our company headquarters are located in the Christkindl pilgrimage centre in Steyr.
1699
The house in Christkindl is built to guard the hermitage built on a rock.
1794
After the Garsten monastery was dissolved, the former hermit's house was sold to Vitus Geistberger for the construction of an inn.
1931
Georg and Theresia DAVID became the owners of the house - hence the nickname ‘Haus David’, which is still commonly used today. After the marriage of their daughter Rosa to the craftsman Franz Baumgartner, the business continued under the name Gasthaus Baumgartner.
1951
The famous Christkindl Christmas post office in the Baumgartner inn opens its doors. Initially with just a few employees and a small number of mail items, the Christkindl post office soon became an international flagship for the romantic town of Steyr.
2002
The next generation made many gastronomic and structural changes. The excellent cuisine and genuine hospitality in a natural ambience became the flagship of the business. In 2002, Georg Baumgartner took over the business at the age of 21 and was celebrated as the youngest young entrepreneur in Upper Austria.
2008
We realised the idea of the 4**** Hotel Christkindlwirt thanks to the excellent cuisine and the hospitality we offer.
2017
The innovative Hotel & Day Spa Vitus in Steyr opens with 10 exclusive suites, 2 SPA suites, 2 feel-good rooms and 2 family flats.
2022
With the new electric taxi & carsharing project ‘crowddriving’, the company offers 100% emission-free transport. The company's own electric fleet can be hired or a journey booked via the booking app.
